| Texan Men's Basketball TEXANS LEASH THE BULLDOGS 76-54 Wimberley Texans Men’s Basketball was ready to run Tuesday night when they hosted Bandera...and boy did they run! Wimberley’s up-tempo transition offense and full press defense helped the Texans control the game and take a 21-14 lead at the end of the 1st quarter. The 2nd quarter was more of the same with offense coming from a whole host of Texans. Ian Hooper, Davis Holliman, Tyler Nance and Hunter Burttschell were all scorers. Great defense, which included controlling the rebounding, came from Niko Alana, Taylor Robertson, Davis Holliman, Hunter Burttschell, and Seth Linker. Wimberley closed the first half with a 40-24 lead. The 3rd quarter again had Wimberley holding Bandera down in scoring with tough defense and quick, paint-penetrating offense. The Texans held the Bulldogs to only 11 points in the 3rd to take a 57-35 lead. Robertson came off the bench and added offense inside with 11 points. The 4th quarter was back and forth as Bandera attempted to close the gap to no avail. The Texans had a convincing win and finished the game with a 76-54 victory. Scoring: Ian Hooper 20, Hunter Burttschell 19, Taylor Robertson 11, Davis Holliman 8, Tyler Nance 8, Niko Alana 7, Seth Linker 3. |

| Texan Tennis TEXAN TENNIS BACK IN ACTION! It’s January and the 2nd semester has started for WHS and that means it’s also back to the tennis courts for the WHS Tennis Team. The last action for the Texans was a TEAM TENNIS dual at the end of October. The Texans had finished the Fall portion of the season with an 8-3 record. However, if there was rust from that layoff, it didn’t stop the Texans from gaining a 9th TEAM victory. On a cool and blustery January 21st, Wimberley defeated Boerne by a score of 14-5. In the singles matches, Wimberley dominated play and was able to win 11 out of 12. WHS sure seemed to need them all, though, as Boerne actually had a 4-3 advantage after doubles play was completed. Those three doubles wins for the Texans came courtesy of Wimberley’s Mason Stark & Mesa Martorell, Sam San Marco & Clinton Quinn, and Michael Young & Landon O’Neal. Down 4-3 after doubles, the singles victories slowly began to pile up in favor of Wimberley as first Clinton Quinn picked up a win, followed by Sam San Marco, Aubry Ruckman and Michael Young. Those were followed by more singles wins from Anna Lindsey, Mason Stark, Mesa Martorell, Hannah Whisenant, Lizzy Lamb, Amy Bell and finally Pierce Fulkerson. The teams were able to play a few extra individual matches and Daniel Donaldson and Landon O’Neal were able to pick up good wins in those matches. Boerne and Wimberley tennis matches are always good, hard-fought battles and the 11 singles wins were a testament to how hard the WHS tennis players worked during the break to improve. Next tennis action for the high school team will be Saturday, Jan. 28th as Wimberley plays TEAM TENNIS against Mason High School (the defending 1A State TEAM TENNIS Champions) and Abilene Wylie (the defending 3A State TEAM TENNIS Champions). |
