Llano

The Texans varsity visited Llano on Tuesday, March 9 to take on the Yellow Jackets. The Texans came
away with a hard fought 5-4 victory in 7 innings. Lance Yeates was the starting pitcher and left the
game after 5 innings with the game tied at 3-3. The Texans started the scoring when Josh Gray, the
catcher and lead off hitter reached 1st base on a throwing error by the Llano shortstop.   asubsequent
fielding error on a ball hit sharply to the shortstop by Brennen Blakemore allowed Gray to advance to
2nd base and Blakemore to 1st base. Riley Stephens then came on to pinch run for Gray and promptly
advanced to 3rd base on a passed ball. Stephens scored when Brennen Blakemore stole 2nd base
causing an errant throw. Both Caleb Wilson and Dustin English hit the ball sharply to the outfield but
the Llano center fielder made very nice defensive plays to record the outs and end the top of the 1st
ining with Wimberley up 1-0.

The Yellow jackets responded with 2 runs in the bottom of the 1st inning to take the lead. The Yellow
Jackets then picked up another run in the 2nd inning to extend their lead to 3-1.

The Texans responded with 2 runs in the top of the 3rd inning to tie the game. Brennen Blakemore had
a base hit followed by a stolen base to put him in scoring position. Tug McRoberts then drove a
towering home run shot over the right field fence to knot the score.

Lance Yeates and the defense held the yellow Jackets scoreless in the 3rd, 4th, and 5th innings. Yeates
left the mound after the 5th inning. The Yellow Jackets scored a run in the bottom of the 6th inning to
take a 4-3 lead into the 7th inning.

Second baseman Dylan Matlock led off the top of the 7th inning with a base on balls. Josh Gray then
executed a sacrifice bunt to move Matlock into scoring position. Brennen Blakemore then reached 2nd
base on a throwing error by the shortstop allowing Matlock to score to tie the game at 4-4. Tug
McRoberts then hit a deep shot down the left field line that dropped just inside the foul line for a
double, which easily scored Blakemore for the go ahead run.

The Texans brought on Caleb Wilson to pitch in the 7th inning with a 5-4 lead. After a lead off walk,
Wilson was able to shut down the Yellow Jackets. Their base runner was able to advance to 3rd base
on a stolen base and a past ball. However, with 2 outs Wilson induced a ground ball in the hole that
shortstop Brennen Blakemore played very well to get the out just ahead of the speedy base runner,
thereby preventing the tying run from crossing the plate.

Caleb Wilson was the winning pitcher for the Texans with his 1 inning of work. Center fielder Tug
McRoberts spearheaded the offensive effort by going 2 for 3 with a home run, a double, a walk, 3 RBI's,
a stolen base, and 1 run scored. Brennen Blakemore was 1 for 3 with a walk, 2 stolen bases, and 2 runs
scored. Designated hitter Joe Schindler was 1 for 2 with a walk.

The Texans improved their season record to 8-2 with the win. The team will play in the Hill Country
Classic in Llano on Friday, March 12, and Saturday, March 13. They are scheduled to begin tournament
play with a game against the Snyder Tigers on Friday, March 12 at 1:30 p.m.
See bracket below.

The junior varsity also visited Llano. The Texans easily defeated the Yellow Jackets by a score of 10-1.

Texans Baseball Team relishes Sweetwater success

The Wimberley Texans baseball team competed in the Sweetwater Wooden Bat Classic held March 4-6.
The Texans utilized strong pitching to win all 5 of their games and claim the tournament championship.

The Texans opened tournament play with a 13-5 victory over the Clyde Bulldogs on Thursday, March
4.  Lance Yeates pitched a complete 7-inning game for the Texans, recording 10 strikeouts. Yeates
benefited from a strong defensive effort as the Texans only had 2 errors in the game. In addition,
Yeates got terrific offensive support from the following players: Josh Gray-2 for 4 with a triple, a walk, 2
runs scored, and 2 RBI's;  Brennen Blakemore-2 for 3 with a walk, 3 runs scored and 3 RBI's; Tug
McRoberts-2 for 4 with a triple, 1 run scored, and 3 RBI's; Caleb Wilson-2 for 3 with a walk; Dustin
English-1 for 4 with 2 RBI's; Dylan Matlock-2 for 2 with 2 walks, 3 runs scored, 1 RBI, and 1 stolen base,
and Joe Schindler-1 for 4 with a double, 1 run scored, and 1 RBI. In addition, Ryan Barroso and Riley
Stephens each contributed a base hit in his only plate appearance.

The Texans then defeated the Sweetwater Mustangs 7-0 in the second game on Thursday, March 4.
Caleb Wilson pitched beautifully for the Texans, allowing only 1 hit over 7 innings with 11 strikeouts.
The Texans defense was flawless behind Wilson and did not commit a single error. The Texans' offense
is also to be commended as they faced 2 quality pitchers and were able to produce 7 runs on 10 hits.
The following players provided strong offensive support: Josh Gray-2 for 4 with 2 runs scored;
Brennen Blakemore-2 for 3 with a walk, 2 runs scored, and 1 stolen base; Tug McRoberts-2 for 4 with 2
runs scored, and 1 RBI; Caleb Wilson-1 for 3 with a double, a sacrifice fly, 1 run scored, and 2 RBI's;
and Dustin English-2 for 4 with 2 RBI's.

The Texans then faced the Slaton Tigers in the early game on Friday, March 5 and came away with an
11-1 victory in 6 innings. Dustin English pitched for the Texans and allowed only 3 hits while recording
12 strikeouts. The Texans' defense was again rock solid with only 1 error.  The Texans got offensive
contributions from the following players: Tug McRoberts-4 for 4 with 2 doubles, 4 runs scored, 1 RBI,
and 2 stolen bases; Dustin English-2 for 4 with 1 run scored, and 2 RBI's; Hunter Wright-1 for 3 with a
double, a hit by the pitch,  and 1 RBI; Travis Payton-1 for 4 with 1 run scored, and 1 RBI;  Josh Gray 1
for 4 with 1 run scored, and 1 stolen base; and Brennen Blakemore-0 for 2 with 2 walks, 2 runs scored,
and 1 stolen base.

The Texans next played the Lamesa Golden Tornadoes in the late game on Friday, March 5 and
prevailed 8-5 in 5 1/2 innings. The game was shortened due to a tournament time limit. Ian Hooper got
his first varsity start and pitched yet another complete game for the Texans in the tournament. Hooper
was hampered somewhat in his pitching efforts due to the Texans' defense committing 5 errors.
However, the team played through the problems and scratched out a hard fought victory. The Texans
faced a quality Lamesa pitcher and were only able to generate 5 hits. However, the Texans got 3 of
those hits in a 5-run 3rd inning that gave them a lead they would never relinquish.  The following
players provided some much needed offensive support:  Caleb Wilson-1 for 2 with a triple, a walk, 2
runs scored, and 1 RBI; Tug McRoberts-1 for 2 with a hit by pitch, 2 runs scored, 1 RBI and 1 stolen
base; Josh Gray-1 for 3 with 2 runs scored and 1 stolen base, Brennen Blakemore-1 for 3 with 1 run
scored, 1 RBI, and 1 stolen base;  Dustin English-1 for 3 with 2 RBI's; Riley Stephens-0 for 1 with a
walk, 1 stolen base, and 1 run scored. Ryan Barroso also contributed a pinch hit  RBI.

The Texans would next face the Sweetwater Mustangs for a second time on Saturday, March 6. The
Texans would defeat the Mustangs 12-1 in 5 innings. Dylan Matlock pitched for the Texans and held
Sweetwater to only 2 hits. The Texans' defense resumed its solid defensive play by committing only 1
error. Conversely, the Mustangs pitching and defense struggled in the game allowing an 11-run 3rd
inning when the Texans only came up with 2 hits. In fact, the Texans only had 3 hits in the game but
drew 9 walks and had 3 batters hit by the pitchers. In addition, the Mustangs committed 6 errors
allowing the Texans to simply blow the game open. The Texans then maintained their steady defensive
pressure to log the win.  Lance Yeates, Brennen Blakemore and Tug McRoberts each  contributed a
base hit to the offensive cause. In addition, Dustin English laid down an excellent bunt allowing Carson
Doty to score on a "suicide squeeze play".

It is worth noting that Josh Gray, Brennen Blakemore, and Tug McRoberts were the first 3 batters in
the Texans' lineup throughout the 5-game tournament and did not record a single strikeout. The
pressure they kept on the opposing defenses was another important factor in the team's tournament
success.

The Texans improved their season record to 7-2 and were scheduled to play the Llano Yellow Jackets
on Tuesday, March 9 in Llano.

Marion JV Tournament

The junior varsity travelled to Marion on Saturday, March 6 to compete in the Marion Rond Robin
